Pastor Barry D. Black grew up in Madison County and graduated from Madison County High School in 1982. He was saved on December 18, 1976, at 12 years old after reading a gospel tract he found on the road near his home. He says, “I knew that I was a sinner in need of a Savior, and I trusted Jesus Christ that very day.”

Pastor Barry felt God’s call to the ministry at 15 years old. He spent his teen years and early twenties serving in camp ministry, youth ministry, and music ministry. From January 1986 to December 1989, he attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, and received his degree in Church Ministries with a concentration in Counseling. After college graduation, he returned to Madison County and continued to serve in youth and music ministry from 1990 to 1996, and as assistant pastor and music director from 1996-1999. He pastored his first church in 1999 for seven and a half years and has been pastor of Anchor Bible Church since its founding in 2007. Pastor Barry has been a pastor now for over 25 years. In 2021, he married the love of his life, Sharon, whom he met in college.
